I think there may be something more sinister at work here. Battles are the anti-Spiritualized. They're shredding my insides. Someone please make it stop. I'm going to have to start pulling out King Crimson records.

Probably beyond maturity, this '99 Oregon pinot noir from Beaux Freres is pretty powerful stuff. Has a slight tint of gold on the initial, slow pour. Stinks something wonderful, all pepper and earth.
Sauteéd some yardbird with shallots, fresh tarragon and garlic; finished in the oven with kalamata olives. Pan sauce with pinot grigio, a nice hunk of butter, and more tarragon. Haricots verts with almonds and tons more garlic.
And now, however briefly, I am restored.

Well, I finally hit 40, so we did it up in style with a (short) BBQ crawl out to Lockhart and a lovely giant screen from the folks at the Alamo in the backyard, showing one of my all-time favorites, Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles. First up, the resplendent meat cathedral that is Kreuz Market:
Syd and I went to the Maker Faire in Austin on Sunday. Lots of DIY and craftsy stuff, although I think the admission price was a little steep. First we had some serious flapjacks and migas at Austin Diner:
